Parent and Tot Yoga

YogaTotsFBPosterIn this spirited class, young kids along with their parents, will move through yoga postures, animal poses, stretching and breathing exercises for a playful, upbeat and informal 45 minutes for 0-3 year olds.  With plenty of time at the beginning to get settled, and plenty of space for alternate care through out the class, we understand and welcome this age range in all their busy glory!

Saturdays January 23 – March 12 2016
Prenatal Yoga and Education Class

This 8 week prenatal yoga and childbirth education course aims to support bodies as they prepare for a new life chapter.

Krista has developed a yoga course to help growing bodies feel alive and capable despite some of the (possibly) uncomfortable changes occurring throughout pregnancy. Each weeks 1 hour yoga class will focus on a specific aspect of the body and show you how to care for and nurture it by stretching as well as strengthening. The classes will target pregnancy, labour as well as postpartum changes.

Following a quick break, Maria will share 45 minutes of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum education. Together we will explode myths, rebuild birth decisions, plan for more eventualities after baby arrives, and generally help you see around corners. With information you won’t find in other childbirth education classes, this class is suitable for taking with or after another childbirth education class, or even as a second (or more!) time parent.

New Thinking for New Parents
Fall Talk Series

October 16th, 2014 – Tired for the Truth: Real Infant and Family Sleep

Photo Courtesy tungphoto - freedigitalphotos.netNew parents are inundated with information about sleep; you’re made to feel as if you’re not doing it right, and you have to do things that go against your nature as loving, gentle parents. When you just want everyone in the family to get the best sleep they can.

After 2 years of scientific sleep research and systematic review of infant sleep methods, we’ve come to the conclusion that the majority of information out there for – tired, confused, scared – parents… is garbage.

You need actual education, and support where you’re at, without pressure, or judgment. You want evidence based information, and systematic, sympathetic counseling services to put it all together.

This 2 hour talk with cover how babies really sleep and why, what sleep milestones children meet and the ages they happen, and how to build a collaborative plan for everyone’s sleep.

Led by Maria Andrusiak Morland, Owner, Doula, and Counsellor.

October 29th, 2014 – Checkpoints not CheckmarksA New Way to Birth Plan

Photo courtesy of Stuart Miles - freedigitalphotos.netWe spend more time planning when, where, why, and how we’ll go on vacation than how we’ll step through the wonderful, life altering process of the birth journey. It’s time we stopped thinking about birth as a simple check lists of things we don’t know how to work for, and begin to set the checkpoints on the journey that will tell us if we’re getting to where we want to go.
Using our framework of Strategies for Success, we’ll break down how to actually set goals, and plan choices from those goals. Begin the process of understanding where the choices come from, what’s available to you depending on where and with whom you choose to birth.

This 2 hour workshop will show you the basics of birth journey planning and give you time to think about starting the discussion with yourself, your family, and your medical care.

Led by Grace Van Bruwaene, Doula.

Cost: $20/parent, $35/couple

November 5th, 2014 – The Breastfed Baby Goes to Work

Photo courtesy of franky242 - freedigitalphotos.netDo I have to start pumping before I go back to work?”, “Do I have to wean ahead of time?”, “How will my child fall asleep when they nurse to sleep at home?”, “Will my care provider give bottles of milk and how and when and how much?”

Maternity leave starts and the moment it does, many are in a count down. A stressful countdown where scenario after scenario of “what if’s” and “how are we going to” travel around and around in parents’ heads. How will their child cope with this change? How will anyone sleep? What will they eat? My baby has never taken bottles. I carry them in a carrier for naps. Should I stop breastfeeding now? I’m going to have to wean anyway when I go back to work in a few weeks.

Parents coming up to the return to work after having a child tell us that they find the stress of returning to be the same or more than having a newborn! There is extra special stress on a breastfeeding parent who doesn’t know what breastfeeding will look like when they’re gone for the day, and their child is in care.

Do you have to do ANY of this extra work at all? Many of us breastfed to save ourselves work, why do we have to do more all of a sudden? At a time of great change, it can be comforting to all family members to know what can remain the same. Find out what things really matter to the continuing of breastfeeding past the return to work mark, and how you can plan to make the transition better for baby… and for the parents!

Led by Denise Coleman, RECE, Doula, Counsellor, and Owner.

Cost: $20/parent, $35/couple
